Maya Glyphs

The Maya invented the most advanced form of writing in the ancient Americas. They used hieroglyphics. The Mayas used over 700 symbols or glyphs. A glyph is a picture or a symbol used to represent a sound, a word, or a syllable.

Hieroglyphics covered their stelas, the big stone slabs they built to tell the story of special occasions and events.

Students created their own original Maya Glyphs, each with a unique meaning and symbols.

Math 4 - Geometry
Continuing part two of their geometry unit, students investigated, built, and drew

Inca Textiles

Inca weaving is one of the greatest textile arts the world has ever seen and one of the most important crafts in their culture.

Mostly, Inca women weaved, but some Inca men also weaved. They used wool from llamas for weaving because it was very coarse and it varied in color. They used this wool to make blankets and ropes. They also used wool from alpaca because it was white, with some gray and brown in it. They used this wool for weaving clothing.  The Inca used the extremely fine wool of the vicuna, the smallest American camel. They used this wool for weaving their finest cloth.
The production of textiles is still alive and well in the Andes today and continues to be an extremely important source of income for many mountain communities.

Students wove their own original pieces inspired by
Inca textiles.

The 4/5 students did a wonderful presentation at assembly about the importance of Honey Bees and why we have them here at Parker.
