The 4/5s have been learning about the United States federal government.

They learned about the 3 Branches of Federal Government then created visual representations, which included the heads of each branch, the primary responsibility of each branch, and a symbol to represent that branch.

Other classroom activities have included:

“How Should Representative Smith Vote?” a mock public hearing with special interest groups making presentations to Rep. Smith and her staff.

“How Would You Decide the Case: Chicago vs. Morales.” After reading the case and hearing arguments made by both sides, students had to decide how they would rule if they were Supreme Court Justices.

One of the 4/5’s favorite activities is Buddies. Each 4/5 student is paired with a Pre-K 3 or Pre-K 4 buddy and on Friday mornings, for about an hour, they spend time with their buddies.  Sometimes they write books together, draw, build imaginative structures, or read to their little buddies, and sometimes they enjoy playing with one another outside.

Math 4 students enjoy time in the tech lab working on developing and strengthening math skills.

The 4/5 students shared their wonderfully creative summer reading projects.  Projects included newspapers, dioramas, party invitations complete with guest list and menu, scrapbooks, character interviews, reports, and even some very imaginative movie trailers!
